Night with 80/1.9 Primoplan - more pictures below

This camera was manufactured in 1936 in the months following the manufacture of the Kine prototypes for the 1936 Photokina (Kine prototypes are in the 4556XX range). It is a possibility that Herr Nuchterlein was experimenting with the idea of a removable back for the VP line of cameras. The hinge plates have been drilled out and replaced with these solid brass, interlocking curved pieces (compare the pictures with one of your personal cameras). Because of the tight mesh of the parts, the back doesn't come off until opened approx. 120 degrees.

The original rivets have been neatly replaced. The workmanship is of high quality. The rivets on the body shell are neatly hammered.

The patina of the brass parts indicates this is a vintage modification, not something recent. An unusual piece for the Exaktologist!
